In an audit of government grants 2022/23, the TaxPayers' Alliance has uncovered that £200,000 has been spent on a project to decolonise the works of Robert Louis Stevenson. Most notably the classic literature of Treasure Island. This grant was given to Edinburgh University, aiming to remove the stereotypes from the author's work.
Joanna Marchong, investigations campaign manager at the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:
"Taxpayers will be up in arms about the huge amounts of cash wasted.
"The civil service has been splurging cash on right-on rubbish and pointless projects.
"Bureaucrats who insist on funding this nonsense should be told to walk the plank."
